Second Hand Uniform Shop-call for helpers

At a PFA meeting in 2018, I put my hand up to manage the secondhand uniform stall. It was suggested opening a few times at the start of the term and maybe the end. The ‘stall’ was two roller hangers that were wheeled out of the prep building and positioned under the awning. As renovation works began on the Prep building the stall was wheeled in and out of a container near the Graceburn Ave playground and we’d float about there. Where to next, southside of the year two classrooms followed by the northside. More opening times, more stock, shelves were piled high.

2024, relocation was upon us, this time a fixed abode - what a dream! A container in the middle of the lost space that only makes sense to the kids, within the prefab classrooms (who knew two containers were there?! Who knew three rows of classrooms were there).

Now, the stall has a home with near regular openings, overflowing stock and just like any store - offers ‘cash or card’.

It’s been wonderful to meet many kids parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and teachers too, that I wouldn’t have met if not for the stall.

Many people over the seven years have volunteered their time to sort clothes and open the stall on alternative days, which I’m so grateful for. Thank you to all those mums! And how lucky I was when Marina came on board many years ago. It’s been a great partnership, thank you Marina!

So with a very long preamble of memories and thanks, now that my 2018 preppy has headed off to secondary school, it’s time to pass the torch. I hope someone, maybe a few of you, would be interested in managing the secondhand uniform stall for CPS.

What’s required you ask?

To date, Marina and I open Monday one week followed by Friday the next. I often enlist my kids to help sort and hang every now and again on Friday afternoons with a big sort when stock levels are high where I call out for help to friends and the school community.

Does it have to stay the same? No, manage it as you’d like.
