A Message from our School Council President
Verity Walker
A warm welcome from School Council to our returning students, staff, and our new Prep students and their respective families. We hope that all students have settled in well and are enjoying their new class groups, new routines and are enjoying the diverse range of learning opportunities that Carnegie PS has to offer. We also welcome new teaching staff who have joined our teaching teams and will no doubt bring fresh perspectives, enthusiasm and expertise to their work here at Carnegie. What an exciting year of learning our children have ahead of them.
At this time every year, I invite all parents to consider opportunities to contribute to and participate in the life of the school. School Council is just one option you might be interested in, but an important one. A well-informed and effective school council strengthens community confidence in the school, helping to build and secure the broad direction and vision of the school within the community and assists in the efficient governance of the school to ensure that decisions affecting students are made having regard to their best interests.
School council plays an important role here at Carnegie PS and being a member of Council is a rewarding experience. School council members bring to the role a diverse range of experiences, perspectives, information, connections and skills to carry out their governance functions. Working as a team, School Council supports Carnegie PS to provide the best possible educational outcomes for students.
A sincere thank you to those parents and staff who have generously contributed their time and expertise and who are concluding their term on council at the forthcoming AGM in March. Your contribution has been greatly valued. We are now actively seeking interested parents who might like to consider a position on Council to fill these vacancies. For more information on the role of Council, details on how to nominate and the timeline please see the Principal’s message.
I have had the privilege of being the School Council President from 2022 and have been a school councillor since 2015. With only 1 child left at the school (William Walker Gr5), I will also be vacating my position. As with all councillors, I would be pleased to speak with any parent who is interested in nominating for School Council and encourage you to consider the opportunity.
