Week four - what a week! On Friday morning, we had the privilege of welcoming some very special guests to Fitzroy North Primary School: the Federal Education Minister, Jason Clare, along with the Federal Member for Wills, Peter Khalil. Jason and Peter were impressed with their tour of our school, which showcased our inspiring teaching and learning, including our innovative and hands-on STEM and SAKG programs. Our students also relished the opportunity to teach Jason and Peter some Auslan skills as we integrate this wonderful language into our curriculum. If you’d like to learn more about our teaching and learning programs, don’t forget to visit our school website and follow us on Instagram!
Shade graced the basketball court for Friday’s assembly, where we were witness to the heartwarming Prep Flower Ceremony. From there, the masses moved to ‘The Block’ for the annual community picnic, featuring a planting session facilitated by our own Italian and Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden teacher, Lucy. Thank you to Nicole Mills, Andrea Tonkin and the Community Engagement School Council Sub-Committee for their contributions and for making this event happen. Thank you to the teachers and to all the community members who attended - it was a truly welcoming and community-minded event.
We want to hear from you! Partnering again with Evolve in 2025, FNPS plans to deliver Cyber Safety workshops for students and information sessions for parents and carers later in Term One. In order to meet the needs of our community, we’ve prepared a short, anonymous survey to find out what you would like to know more about and how we can support you. Your feedback will be passed on to Bec Martyn, Evolve Facilitator, and will be used to develop the information sessions for parents and carers.

Our first units of inquiry for the year are beginning to wrap up, and we are seeing some exciting celebrations of learning happening across the school! The 1/2 students have been exploring the Central Idea that ‘People communicate through storytelling’ as a part of the theme ‘How We Express Ourselves’.
The transdisciplinary themes of the PYP provide students with rich, cross-curricular learning opportunities that allow students to make connections with prior knowledge and new learning. In this instance, the 1/2 students have explored the Humanities/ Social Studies, the Arts, Language and Literacy, as well as the Personal and Social Capabilities of the Victorian Curriculum. Students have delved into how stories can be told through text (both oral and written), as well as through dance, music, puppetry, art, and more. As learners, they have also practised being open-minded and effective communicators. If you have a child in Year 1/2, make sure to ask them about today’s Inquiry Immersion experience!

The Student-Led Gender Equity Project (SLGEP) pioneered at FNPS in 2024 and was met with critical acclaim from students, staff and families. This program is tied to the Department’s Rights, Responsibilities and Respectful Relationships program, and empowers our Year 6 students to explore and address gender equity issues within our school community.
If you have a child in Year 6, please indicate your consent for them to attend these sessions on the Compass form. Remember that you or your child can opt out at any time.
