LOOK WHAT HAS BEEN HAPPENING IN AUSLAN AT MPHPS
Hello everyone,
We had another great fortnight in the Auslan classroom. It’s so good to see students practising the signs they have learnt and being enthusiastic about their learning.
SIGNS OF THE WEEK
Don’t forget to ask your child to show you some of the AUSLAN signs they have been learning. In the last fortnight we have been revising many signs that we learnt last year. The signs of the week are: ‘plus’, ‘minus’ & ‘equals’.
IN THE CLASSROOM
Years 3 – Students have been learning the Auslan Alphabet and they have been learning to introduce themselves and practise signing their names in Auslan.
Year 4 – Students have been revising signs related to animals and then viewed a story in Auslan related to animals.
Year 5 – Students have been learning signs related to nature and they have been learning to sign their favourite places in nature in Auslan.
Year 6 – Students have been revising signs related to numbers and the four operations in Auslan and they have created simple equations.
- The advantages of learning Auslan are rich for those that are deaf or hard of hearing and use Auslan, it’s a vital means of communication and for the hearing population it offers an avenue to connect with and understand the Deaf community.
