Ash Wednesday

Head of Primary, Mrs Tracey Rogers

Despite the heat, this fortnight has brought many opportunities for the Primary community. In particular, it has been lovely to get back into the routine of attending our Chapel services. Under the leadership of the Reverend Canon Justine Coverdale, students have time and space to reflect upon their actions and the actions of others, stories from the Bible, events in the Church calendar and are able to demonstrate respect for their own beliefs and the beliefs of others. We are grateful for this opportunity in the week.

Speaking of opportunities, Mr Teape and I were fortunate to be able to attend an International Baccalaureate Organisation (IBO) event in Hong Kong over the weekend. Every five years, as an authorised World School, we undertake a process called Evaluation, which supports us to continue developing the Primary Years Programme (PYP) in our school. Our workshop, entitled Planning for Evaluation, was an excellent opportunity to develop our understanding of new processes the IBO has in place and network with fellow PYP leaders from the Asia Pacific region. We were also very fortunate to be able to tour the Primary School at Renaissance College, although our colleagues in the workshop found it hard to conceive of the space we enjoy here in WA. Over the next 12 months, there will be opportunities provided for families to be involved with the process of Evaluation.

Classes across the Primary are now in full swing. In particular, it has been very exciting to see our first cohort of Telethon Speech and Hearing Talkabout 4 students commence their journey. It has been rewarding to collaborate with our TSH colleagues to ensure a smooth start in a wonderful new facility, shared with our Little Wollies.

Today we had our Commissioning Service where we acknowledged our Primary student leaders for 2024. Congratulations to all of our leaders! We look forward to the contribution you will make across this year.

Over the last fortnight, teachers have worked hard to release some ‘settling in’ feedback to students. This is a timely opportunity to check in via Seesaw (Kindy-Year 4) or SEQTA in Years 5 and 6 to see how your child has settled into the year. Our Little Wollies require more time at school, so will release feedback in the coming weeks. As always, the class teacher is the best source of support if you have any concerns, queries, or gratitude that you would like to share.

Our Coordinators are working with teaching teams to conduct more formal uniform checks now that there has been time to rectify any minor issues that came with getting back into school mode. We do have a distinctive and lovely uniform and I thank parents and families for your support of the School Uniform Policy. The students are looking very sharp! Please remind your Primary child/ren that hats are worn to and from school every day, all year.

Best wishes

Mrs Tracey Rogers
