Dear Parents and Carers

I don't think I can recall a hotter start to a school year since I worked in the Pilbara in the early 1990s. I vividly recall a month of temperatures in the 40s, which with daylight saving, meant temperatures were very high well into the evening. In Newman, school finished at 2:30pm which in summer was a sweltering time of day for students to ride or walk home. The only saviour was airconditioning, the most reliable being in the town shopping centre where everyone seemed to congregate.

Our run of hot weather has certainly proved testing but I have been pleased with the good humour and patience shown by staff and students as they have largely foregone outdoor activities during break times to keep cool inside. Cooler days will be a welcome relief for everyone.

As always, the School is a hive of activity with students in all years now settled into the rhythm of Term 1. I would like to share with you some of my favourite photos of the first month of the school year.

With best wishes

Anne Ford
