LAST CHANCE - 2024 Team Vic State Team Trials 

Registrations are now open for any child (12 years and under) who would like to try out for the Victorian State Teams. The School Sport Victoria (SSV) Team Vic representative program provides a development platform for Victorian students to challenge themselves against Australia’s best school aged athletes across numerous sports at the annual School Sport Australia (SSA) Championships. SSV coordinate the selection process for Team Vic teams in partnership with relevant state sporting organisations.

Please see the new Team Vic Principal Endorsement Sheet process for the following teams in 2024:

  • Australian Football 12 Years & Under Boys (Closes on Friday 1st March, 2024)
  • Basketball 12 Years & Under Girls/Boys (Closes on Friday 1st March, 2024)
  • Football (Soccer) 12 Years & Under Boys (Closes on Friday 1st March, 2024)
  • Netball 12 Years & Under Girls (Closes on Friday 1st March, 2024)
  • Cricket 12 Years & Under Boys (Closes on Friday 1st March, 2024)

Children are reminded that the skills required for these teams must be exceptional.  It is not a ‘Come and Try’ system. Children are required to check with the school principal or sports teacher for endorsement to go to the trials.

Sacred Heart Swimming Sports Years 4-6 

Well done to all the students from Years 4-6 that participated in the Sacred Heart Swimming sports. It was great to see the enthusiasm of the students, especially during the relay races. Congratulations to Arundell who were the overall winners on the day. A big thank you to the parents who assisted on the day. Pictured is two of our Year 6 students - Solomon Coventry and Tahlia Kelly from Arundell House with the perpetual trophy. 

 

 

Colac Division Tennis Trials

Well done to our students from Years 5 and 6 who competed in the Colac Division Tennis Trials last Friday at the Colac Lawn Tennis Courts. There was some great tennis to be watched. A big congratulations to Jemma Howat who was the winner of the girl’s event. Jemma will now progress to the Greater Western Tennis Tournament in Ballarat on Tuesday 26th March. We wish Jemma all the best. 

A big thank you to the parents and grandparents who supported the day.

Trinity Cricket Coaching

This Thursday, a group of Trinity students will be coming to Sacred Heart to teach our students some cricket skills. The Trinity students have just completed a coaching course with Vic Cricket and now have to put their new found skills into action. The following classes will have the chance to learn some skills - Year 1AG, Year 5/6 Boys, Year 4SF, Year 4TR. We are grateful to Mr Harrington and his students for this opportunity and look forward to some cricket fun.

 

Sacred Heart Athletics Carnival

The Sacred Heart Athletics Carnival will take place this Friday 1st March at Colac Central Reserve. All students from Years 3-6 have the opportunity to participate in this event. It will include many track and field activities including High Jump, Shot Put, Discus, 100m, 200m, Relays etc. The sports will start at approximately 9:40am and finish at 1:20pm. Students will walk to the Central Reserve. Students may still have a lunch order on this day. We STILL need parent helpers on the day, so can you please indicate on PAM if you can assist.

Golf Coaching Lessons

On Monday 18th and Monday 25th March, the students in Years 5 and 6 will have golf lessons with golf pro Michael Bainbridge. Michael is very experienced in the game of golf and we look forward to him visiting the school. Students can wear their sports uniform on these days. Golf lessons will take place on the school oval. Golf clubs, putters etc will be supplied.

Name:  Jesse Shortis (Yr 6TR)

1. What sports do you play? The sports I play are basketball and fishing.

2. Which sport is your favourite to play? Basketball is my favourite sport.

3. Why is this your favourite sport? Basketball is my favourite sport to play because it is good for my body and keeps me fit.

4. What is your proudest sporting moment? My proudest sporting moment was when I got two wickets in a cricket match.

5. What are your strengths that help you with sport? My strengths in sport is my bravery.

6. Why do you love playing sports? I love playing sport because it keeps me strong and healthy.

7. Who is your favourite sports person?  My favourite sports person is Charlie Curnow who is a leading goal kicker for the Carlton Football Club.

8. Why are they your favourite?  Curnow is my favourite player because he is really entertaining to watch.

9. What is your favourite sporting team? My favourite sports team is Carlton.

10. How would your coaches and teammates describe you? My coach would describe me as a hard-working player, who is nice to his team mates. 

 

Name: Rose Paul (Yr 6LG)

1. What sports do you play? The sports I play are badminton and basketball.

2. Which sport is your favourite to play? Basketball is my favourite sport to play.

3. Why is this your favourite sport? Basketball is my favourite sport because it involves running and shooting goals. It is enjoyable to play because it is a team sport and I get to play with friends.

4. What is your proudest sporting moment? My proudest sporting moment was two years ago when I came first in a Badminton tournament.

5. What are your strengths that help you with sport? My strengths in sport if that I can run fast and I have good stamina to last a long time.

6. Why do you love playing sports? I love playing sport because you get to meet new people and sport is something that I have a good time doing.

7. Who is your favourite sports person?  My favourite sports person is my Dad – Paul George.

8. Why are they your favourite?  Dad is my favourite sports person because he was the one who introduced me to sport.

9. What is your favourite sporting team? My favourite sports team is the Geelong Cats.

10. How would your coaches and teammates describe you? My coach and team mates would describe me as athletic and also a kind team mate.

 

Name: Luke McGuane (Yr 4SF)

1. What sports do you play? The sports I play are football and cricket.

2. Which sport is your favourite to play? My favourite sport to play is cricket. 

3. Why is this your favourite sport? Cricket is my favourite sport because I get to play with my friends.

4. What is your proudest sporting moment? My proudest sporting moment was when I got my first wicket in cricket.

5. What are your strengths that help you with sport? My strength in sport is that I have a very good throwing arm. I can throw really hard and fast.

6. Why do you love playing sports? I love playing sport because it keeps me busy and I never get bored playing sport.

7. Who is your favourite sports person?  My favourite sports person is Luke Hodge.

8. Why are they your favourite?  Luke is my favourite sports person because he was a great player for Hawthorn. He is now a very good commentator. He also went to Sacred Heart Primary School like me!

9. What is your favourite sporting team? My favourite sports team is the Hawks.

10. How would your coaches and teammates describe you? My coach or team mates would describe me as a strong player, who can throw a ball very fast.
