This term, I have had the pleasure of visiting a range of classes to engage in ‘Godly Play’ lessons.
Godly Play is and imaginative approach that supports, challenges, and encourages children to engage with Bible Stories. During Godly Play lessons, children gather in a circle, watch a re-enactment of a Bible Story, reflect upon the story in creative and playful ways, gather for a prayer, and enjoy a snack and chat with their peers.
As Easter is quickly approaching, our Godly Play sessions have focused on preparing for the mystery of Easter. We have explored the season of Lent as being a time in which we prepare for Easter and the sacrifice of Christ. We have also been exploring key events in Jesus’ life and his journey towards the cross and resurrection.
Children have been reflecting on their experiences and understandings of the Godly Play foci by wondering, creating, constructing, and representing their ideas. We were also very lucky to have Pastor Matt and Vicar Shaun join us for a Godly Play lesson to engage with the children and share their knowledge.
