As we journey through Lent, take time each day to pray with your children, using the Prayer hand to help out! Each finger and the thumb, reminds students of who to focus their prayers on.
Thumb- Family & friends (those closest to our hearts)
Pointer - Those who point us in the right direction
Tall finger - Those who lead (governments etc)
Ring finger - Those who are weak or sick
Pinkie - for the poor, sad and lonely
During Lent we try to think of others, especially those less fortunate. Project Compassion is a wonderful program run by Caritas Australia to raise funds for communities in need. On Ash Wednesday, each student brought home a money box for families to make donations throughout Lent. These will be collected at the end of the term. Each classroom will have a donation box, to encourage students to help those in need.
Sunday, 10th March - Family Mass (9.00am)
Tuesday, 12th March - First Confession (4.00pm)
Friday, 15th March - Green Mufti Day for St. Patrick (Caritas Fundraiser)
Starts next Monday
We are very excited to give the students at St Edward’s Primary School the opportunity to participate in the 2024 NSW Premier’s Reading Challenge. This is a proud tradition at St Edward’s and every student is invited wholeheartedly to participate.
Every student at the Infants Campus will automatically be signed up to the challenge and read books from the challenge as part of their class and library sessions.
Primary students wanting to participate in the Challenge will need to complete the online form.
The challenge aims to encourage in students a love of reading for leisure and pleasure, and to enable students to experience quality literature. It is not a competition but a challenge for each student to read, to read more and to read more widely. There is an age appropriate list of books that participants can choose from to read (also be read to) and if they experience the required amount of books they will receive a special Premier’s Reading Challenge certificate.
The Challenge begins on Monday 26th February and runs until Friday 23rd August, 2024.
PLEASE NOTE!! Any books on the list that your child has read (or you have read to your child for K - 2) over the summer holidays can be counted for this year’s Challenge.
Further information can be obtained from the following website:
https://online.det.nsw.edu.au/prc/home.html
If you are interested in registering your child / children for the Challenge, please complete the online form by Monday 26th February. We will then send home any further information necessary to log in and get started. Replies later than this date are not a problem, as you can start any time but the closing date remains the same.
The library has been a buzz with all things Taylor Swift this week in the lead up to her Sydney concerts. On Wednesday students from the Primary Campus made friendship bracelets in their lunch break. Infants students will get their chance to make friendship bracelets tomorrow in their lunch break. Students were also treated to a special surprise when Mrs Michell brought in her Taylor Swift VIP Box to show students.
