Welcoming new staff

Welcoming new staff!

Miss Cailyn Hechter  - Year 3 Teacher

I am excited to introduce myself as a new addition to the SCC teaching team. I am Miss Cailyn Hechter – or better known as “Miss H” as my Afrikaans surname can be rather tricky to pronounce.

I have recently moved to Hobart from sunny Cape Town. The journey from the southern tip of Africa to the heart of Tasmania has been both exciting and filled with the promise of new experiences.

I have past experience in the Learner Support area as well as having taught Year 7 students, but since commencing my studies in 2019, I dreamed of teaching a Year 3 class! I am very passionate about experiential learning and believe that the best lessons are learned by doing. As a lifelong learner myself and someone who is always up for a new challenge, my aim is not only to impart knowledge but also to spark curiosity and a love for learning within all my students.

Beyond the classroom, I love being outdoors, whether it's running along scenic trails or hiking up the mountains. I enjoy cooking and baking, and you will usually find me with a cup of coffee in my hand. Recently, my weekends are spent exploring the city and ticking different cafés off my list – any recommendations are welcome!

It remains the biggest blessing and privilege to teach, and I look forward to a fantastic school year filled with learning, growth, and lots of laughter!

Mr Ian Riley - Outdoor Education and Quest Teacher

My career in the outdoor industry first started when I was at University, and was employed as an underwater SCUBA guide, looking after people underwater and showing them Tasmania's incredibly beautiful and diverse marine ecosystem.

Throughout my degree I also had a passion for rock climbing which eventually led me to Mountaineering in New Zealand's snowy Alps, and ice climbing frozen waterfalls in Canada.

I met my wife climbing, and we now have two beautiful children, Imojen and William and have been happily married for 17 years.

After completing my Science degree I worked as  an environmental scientist for several years predominantly in the area of environmental impact studies. Wanting to make more of a difference I decided to return to university in 2004 to do a teaching degree. I went on to become a climbing instructor, SCUBA and first aid instructor and Sea Kayak instructor.

I have now been teaching for 20 years, and continue to have a passion for God's creation and helping people get to know Him through it.

I'm really looking forward to being a part of the SCC community, and teaching students how to safely enjoy the Lord's creation and building a deeper relationship with Him, themselves and others through it.

Mrs Anita Wilson - Executive Assistant

This year I became part of the SCC team in the role of Executive Assistant. I have been working in Education in administrative roles for over 14 years.

I moved to Tasmania from the Blue Mountains (NSW) when I was 13 years old. When we first arrived in Tasmania my parents ran Blue Lagoon Christian Youth Camp for several years.

When I was 25, I met my husband through church where he was the sound desk technician. He loved to 4WD and after 9 hours of being stuck in mud at South Port, I knew he was the one for me. We have 3 children: Abby (19), Georgia (18) and Eli (15) and we have been happily married for 21 years.

Outside of work a few of my passions are camping, 4WD, board games (I am a little bit competitive), restoring antique furniture and having a cuppa and a laugh with a friend. I consider myself a happy, friendly and kind person. Always willing to help others and also have an open-door policy - there is always a place at my dinner table.

Already I am excited to be a part of SCC community and am looking forward to what this season will bring.
