Beach Swimming

This week the Grade 5 and 6 students at CEPS embarked on a thrilling and educational journey to develop essential lifesaving skills. Led by seasoned instructors from Mentone Lifesaving Club, the students honed their surf awareness, tube rescues, and first aid knowledge, including the vital DRSABCD protocol.

Participating in the demanding run swim run exercise not only enhanced their physical fitness but also their ability to navigate aquatic environments effectively. They became proficient in various swimming strokes, such as freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and the safety backstroke. Additionally, they learned crucial skills like wading and duck diving, which allowed them to better understand the unpredictable nature of ocean currents and waves.

Understanding the significance of flags in beach safety was a key component of the program. Furthermore, the students were trained in rescue skills, ensuring they could respond efficiently in case of emergencies.

Beyond these practical skills, the students delved into the importance of beach safety, surf awareness, and the critical role of Life Saving Victoria. This comprehensive program didn't just equip them with lifesaving skills; it instilled in them a sense of responsibility and community service, which are invaluable traits to carry forward in life.

Junior School Council

Congratulations to all our new Junior School Council representatives for 2024.

The Junior School Council is an opportunity for students to experience leadership at school, and to have an input into the development of the school. The children in each class from Prep to Year 6 are elected by their peers for a twelve-month term of office. The Junior School Council meets with the nominated teacher once per month and is chaired by the School Captains. They discuss any items raised by the children of the various classes, as well as performing a range of fundraising and awareness activities for charity.

Think U Know Presentation

Our school will be hosting a ThinkUKnow presentation on Wednesday 6 March from 5.00-6.00pm. All parents, carers and teachers are invited to attend.

ThinkUKnow Australia is an evidence-based education program delivered nationally to prevent online child exploitation. ThinkUKnow Australia is a partnership between the Australian Federal Police, Microsoft Australia, Datacom and the Commonwealth Bank of Australia. The program is delivered in collaboration with policing partners New South Wales Police Force, Northern Territory Police, Queensland Police, South Australia Police, Tasmania Police, Western Australia Police, as well as Neighbourhood Watch Australasia. The presentation will be delivered by a local law enforcement member and an industry volunteer. The presentation is pro-technology and addresses topics including self-generated child abuse material, online grooming, sexual extortion, and importantly encourages help-seeking behaviour. This is a fantastic opportunity for you to learn more about young people and the online environment, and how you can help them to be safe and responsible users of technology.
