Hello from our students and teachers

Respect, Responsibility and Kindness

Hello from Grade 5/6 C and Ms. Jacinta Condon

Personality Dragons

At the start of the year the students in Grade 5/6 C were asked to create a personality dragon. This dragon was to be something that they imagined but that also embodied their own traits and strengths. The examples students created are amazing.

Chairs on Strike!

On Tuesday the Chairs went on strike in the Grade 5/6 classrooms.  Overnight talks on Monday by the Chair Union lead to the strike action and students were shocked to find the protesters had removed themselves from the tables and convened in a space within the room. One chair was even holding a banner and they had placed hazard tape out to stop students from having access. Students were given the task of writing a persuasive piece, convincing the chairs to stop their strike and return to the tables.

Here are the letters we produced in class that put an to end the strike.

Mathematics

In mathematics sessions, students have been working on their use of addition strategies. So far we have worked on partitioning, split and compensation methods. As a way to practise and sharpen their skills, students have been using the site 99 Math. This site is lots of fun and everyone enjoys practising their maths skills in a series of 3 quick games that has them working against the clock to achieve results.  It provides handy statistics that allows each child to improve their accuracy rate and informs us of individual progress. Below is an example of the results from a recent round we played on Tuesday.

Maths-Perimeter

In Mathematics, we have also been busy learning how to apply a formula to find the perimeter of different shapes. We decided to take this information into the great outdoors and measure some different shapes that we found around the school.
