We have been doing lots of great learning so far this year in Year 3!
In reading we have been reading different picture story books and working on a range of comprehension strategies such as predicting, summarising, making connections, visualising and synthesising.
In writing, we have been learning how to write narratives. We have been creating plans so that we gather our ideas and thoughts before we begin writing our narrative. We have also been focussing on revising and editing our work.
In Maths, the focus this term has been on place value. We have been working on recognising, representing and ordering natural numbers using naming and writing conventions for numerals beyond 10 000. We have been using manipulatives to help us with renaming and regrouping numbers.
In science we have been learning about heat. We have looked at primary and secondary sources of heat and how heat moves from one object to another.
Dear Families,
We’ve had an exciting time in the classroom, with students engaging in a variety of learning experiences across different subjects.
In maths, we have been focusing on place value, including expanded notation, to build a strong foundation in number sense. Understanding how numbers are made up helps with problem-solving and mental calculations. You can support your child at home by encouraging them to break down numbers in different way. Try turning everyday numbers into expanded form together!
In reading, students have been developing a love of literacy through narratives. They’ve been analysing stories, making predictions, and exploring themes and messages. These skills help them think critically about books and connect stories to their own experiences. A great way to support this at home is by discussing books and asking, “What do you think might happen next?” or “What lesson do you think this story is teaching?”
In writing, students have been developing their own narratives by breaking down each section carefully. They’ve worked hard to create well-developed stories, including an exciting character named Forky, which can be viewed on Seesaw. Their creativity has really shone through in this process!
Our students have also been staying active and having a fantastic time in their double PE sessions. A special highlight of this term was the swimming carnival, where everyone gave their best effort and showed great sportsmanship.
In health, we’ve been learning about safety, wellbeing, and community support services. Students explored different places that help keep us safe and healthy, and they created some amazing posters showcasing their learning. Be sure to check them out on Seesaw!
Kind regards,

This week the year 6’s have been working super hard and we are very excited to share our learning with you! Check out what we have been up too!
In Reading, we have been analysing different texts about refugees and we are currently reading the text ‘The boy at the back of the class’. We have been focusing on viewing a text from a different perspective by writing retells of the chapters read from a character’s viewpoint. We have also been predicting, inferring and critiquing the themes and messages of a text.
In Writing, we have been planning and writing our narratives. We have been learning different techniques to make our writing engaging like, ‘show don’t tell’ and ‘sizzling starts’.
In Maths, we have been rounding and estimating decimal numbers with a focus on place value. We have also been comparing numbers and their differences, by using the words and symbols ‘greater than’, ‘less than’ or ‘equal to’.
In other news, we had our 3-6 swimming carnival! We had great fun cheering on our peers and house! We raced each other, had fun with one another and swam altogether. Something we are looking forward to is SMP with the preps. We are going to be hosting sport games/activities where we can be dedicated to make the preps feel safe, encourage them to have fun and inspire them as role models.
