We are thrilled to share that our Prep students have started their Buddy Sessions with the Year 6 students! This wonderful program helps build connections between younger and older students, fostering a sense of community, confidence, and leadership.
During our first session, the Year 6 buddies warmly welcomed their Prep friends whilst engaging in a fun get to know you activity.
It was heart-warming to see the students interacting, learning from one another, and forming special friendships.
Additionally, in Week 5, we began our Spatial Motor Program (SMP). This program helps develop students’ coordination, balance, and gross motor skills through engaging physical activities. The children are already enjoying these sessions, and we are excited to see their confidence grow!
The buddy program will continue throughout the year, providing ongoing support for our Preps as they settle into school life. We encourage you to ask your child about their buddy and what activities they have enjoyed together!
Our Prep students have been busy developing their early numeracy skills, focusing on counting and ordering numbers. Through hands on activities, songs, and games, they are building confidence in recognising, sequencing, and understanding numbers in a fun and engaging way.
Alongside their numeracy learning, the Preps have also started their phonics program. They have been busy exploring the sounds that ‘m, s, t, and a’ make, practicing their letter recognition, and learning to blend sounds together. You can help support your child at home by helping them identify known sounds in their take home reading books.
We are also excited to announce that the Hands-on Learning team (HOL) has built brand new picnic tables for our Prep students! These wonderful additions to our outdoor space provide a fantastic area for students to enjoy their snacks, socialise, and engage in learning activities outside the classroom. We are incredibly grateful for this contribution and can’t wait to see the Preps making the most of them.

Reading
The Year 2s have been reading lots of narratives and talking about what happens during the beginning, middle and end of these texts. We have loved reading Hattie and the Fox, The Gruffalo and Diary of a Wombat. We have examined the pictures and text and made inferences as to how characters are feeling and why they make the choices they do. What is your favourite narrative text?
Writing
We are exploring the ways that writers introduce characters and settings, build up tension in the middle of the story and then give the reader a satisfying ending.
Writers in Year 2 looked at the comic strip below and used it to inspire a narrative story.
Here are a couple of our narratives:
Owly is watering the flowers.
He sees wet birds. He has an idea!
He puts the birds in a blanket. The birds are hanging in a hat to stay warm. by M.F
- and another one,
One hot Summer day Owly wanted to water the plants because the plants were so, so hot. Owly began to water the plants and then when he got to the last plant, Owly heard a squeak.
He got the plants out of the way and saw three baby birds and took them out of the plant. The baby birds were wet and soggy.
Owly dried the baby birds with his t-shirt. The baby bird’s mum was coming. Owly had an idea. He got his t-shirt and hat and tied them to the tree as a hanging basket. He put the baby birds inside his hat. When the baby bird’s mum came, she was so happy. Owly, and his friend Wormy, were jumping with joy. By S.G
Maths
In Maths the Year 2s are continuing to learn about our base ten number system and making models of numbers. We are learning about reading larger numbers and about the role of zero as a digit in multi-digit numbers.
What are some large numbers you can find in catalogues you have at home?
