Year 9 Geography Field Trip to Tarra Bulga National Park
On Thursday 7 November, our Year 9 Geography students ventured into the lush temperate rainforest of Tarra Bulga National Park for a day of exploration and hands-on learning. The excursion provided a valuable opportunity for students to connect their classroom studies on ecosystems and interconnections with the real-world environment of one of Gippsland’s most spectacular natural landscapes.
Students began the day with a hike along the Corrigan Suspension Bridge Loop, winding through towering mountain ash trees and tree ferns while taking in the breathtaking views from the bridge itself. Along the way, they participated in a Flora and Fauna Observation and Investigation, identifying native species and recording their findings in detailed field guides. They also completed a Fungi Finds scavenger hunt, where students searched the forest floor for unique fungi species—discovering a surprising variety of shapes, colours, and textures (and perhaps learning that leeches love rainforest adventures just as much as we do!).
Throughout the day, students developed key geographical and scientific skills, including field sketching, close observation, note-taking, identifying plant and animal adaptations, and working collaboratively in teams to share discoveries.
It was a fantastic day of learning and exploration that highlighted the importance of protecting our local ecosystems—and left students with muddy boots, full notebooks, and plenty of stories to tell.
Term 4 Assembly
This week, our College came together for the final whole-school assembly of the year to celebrate the outstanding achievements of our students and staff.
The assembly featured a variety of highlights, including a fascinating “Day in a Life” segment, an inspiring presentation on East Timor, and remarkable performances by our talented students. Emily Nock captivated the audience with her beautiful singing, while Ethan Monck impressed everyone with his robotics project, originally created for the Performing Arts Festival.
It’s always a joy to recognise and celebrate the hard work, creativity, and success of our CCS community.
VCE VM Industry Visit – Overcoming Obstacles
Our Year 11 VCE VM students recently took part in an Industry Visit with the team at Overcoming Obstacles. Rachael, Brooke, Chris and Mandy shared valuable insights into the rewarding career pathways available in disability support work, occupational therapy, therapy assistance, and business operations.
Students were also treated to a delicious morning tea with treats baked by Overcoming Obstacles clients who work at YoYo’s Café at Stretton Park, followed by an energetic and heartwarming performance from the OO dance team.
A big thank you to the Overcoming Obstacles team for welcoming our students and providing such an engaging and inspiring experience!
