Junior Tabloid Sports Day

Wow what a day! The F/1/2 students had a blast joining with other schools from the district to participate in a variety of tabloid sport games last Friday. In mixed groups students moved around showing courageousness to have a go at different activities, including students from other schools, showing respect to the students' leaders (Grade 6 students) and making safe choices throughout the day. We are very fortunate to have such amazing leaders who were compassionate to the younger students, showed great communication skills and made sure their activity was inclusive of all students. Everyone enjoyed a snow cone to finish off a successful day!

Literacy

Students continue to learn different letter sounds, including digraphs, that they transfer into the reading and writing. Here are some examples of writing that shows the use of their letter sound knowledge as well as their knowledge of tricky words (high frequency words).

Visual Art

In Visual Arts, students used various painting techniques to create artworks inspired by the gemstone opal. They experimented with colour mixing, layering, and blending to show the opal’s bright colours and shine, while developing their understanding of texture, light, and colour contrast.

3/4

Inform and Empower session

We recently had our Term 4 Inform and Empower session, where we joined a live event with over 1,000 other Year 3 and 4 students. The session began with a quick recap of what we’d learnt in previous lessons before moving on to an important new topic — scams and hackers. We learnt that scams are when people try to trick us into giving away our money or personal information, or even pretending to be us. Hacking, on the other hand, is when someone forces their way into our accounts or devices without permission. We also discovered some key signs of a scam: if something seems too good to be true, feels urgent, asks for personal details, or pretends to be someone we know, it’s probably a scam. The presenters reminded us to always use strong passwords and never share personal information online without checking with an adult first. The session was interactive and fun — we took part in a Kahoot quiz, discussed ideas with our partners, and stayed engaged the whole time!

Religion

In Religion, Students have been studying scripture (Romans 12:9–13). They learned about the meaning of the passage and explored it in child-friendly language. To demonstrate their understanding, students created a collage that included words, symbols, and images representing what the scripture means to them.

In our Location unit, students investigated grid references. To reinforce their learning, they engaged in a Battleship activity that helped them apply their knowledge in a fun, interactive way.

Year 5/6

It’s been a busy and exciting few weeks in Year 5/6! Students have been working on decimals, fractions, and percentages in Maths, and are learning how to apply their understanding to real-life money scenarios. In Literacy, our class novel The Last Bear has everyone captivated, and the story is becoming especially gripping as we discover how “Bear” might be saved.

Many of our students recently participated in the T20 Cricket Sports Day in Rochester, competing against other local schools. They played exceptionally well, showing excellent teamwork, collaboration, and support for one another. The boys’ team won one of their matches, while the girls’ team claimed two victories — a fantastic effort from everyone involved!

We were also very proud of our Year 6 students who stepped up as leaders during the Junior Tabloid Sports Day. They did an outstanding job engaging the younger students, helping to run activities, and supporting teachers throughout the event.

This week, our Year 6 students also participated in a live Kids Helpline session with Stephanie, focusing on the transition to secondary school. The session explored friendships and how to navigate new social situations with confidence and empathy. Working in pairs, students identified common worries and shared thoughtful tips for managing them. They practised role-plays to distinguish between open and closed questions, learning how open questions can lead to deeper and more meaningful conversations. The session was engaging, practical, and invaluable for supporting our students as they prepare for this exciting next step.
