Our Fight Against Waste at OOPS!
By the STEM Captains
This term our school has been working hard to look after the environment and reduce waste. We’ve started some awesome new projects to help keep our school clean and green!
Green Team Rubbish Pick-Up
We have started a ‘Green Team’ of student volunteers who now pick-up rubbish once a week during lunchtime. We wear gloves and use tongs to collect rubbish around the school. It’s actually really fun, and we love seeing how much cleaner the school looks afterwards. It also makes everyone think more about putting their rubbish in the bin.
Zooper Dooper Dumping Station
Because everyone loves Zooper Doopers at lunchtime, we kept finding the wrappers on the ground. So, we are reintroducing our special Zooper Dooper Dumping Station! Now students can put their wrappers in the right bin, instead of them blowing away or ending up in the garden.
Container Deposit Scheme
We also joined the Container Deposit Scheme. This means we collect drink bottles and cans that can be recycled for money. The money we raise goes towards more sustainability projects for our school. It’s cool knowing we’re helping the planet and the school at the same time!
Officeworks Recyclable Stationery Collection
Near the printer in the corridor, we now have a special box for used pens, markers, and other stationery. Instead of throwing them in the bin, people can drop them off to be recycled. It’s great to know that even little things like pens don’t have to go to landfill.
We’re proud of how our school is helping the environment. These projects show that even small actions can make a big difference. Together, we’re making our school cleaner, greener, and a better place for everyone!
Uniform Recycling
This week we funded eleven boxes of poor-quality second-hand uniforms to be sent to a textile recycler to divert it from landfill.
When donating items to our second hand stall, please consider:
- Is it clean?
- Is it in good condition, ready to be worn?
- Is it free from stains, rips and excessive wear?
If you would not send your child to school in the item, please don't donate it.
Only good quality items can be re-sold. Thank you.

Victorian Container Deposit Scheme
We are excited to share that our school has joined the Victorian Container Deposit Scheme! This program encourages everyone to recycle eligible drink containers by collecting and returning them for a 10 cent refund. Not only does this help to reduce waste and protect our environment, but funds raised will support future student projects and initiatives.
When you return your containers, you can support our school by using our donation ID (C2000069498) or by searching for our school name.
