Principal's Message

Wawa, Wominjika.
Here at Old Orchard Primary School, we acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land we visit each day, the Wurrunguri and Woiwurrung people of the Kulin nation. We acknowledge and respect the elders and leaders past and present and the elders and leaders of all of the cultures and nationalities that are part of the Old Orchard Primary School community. We express our gratitude towards the orchards that were kept in place by the peoples on this land before us. We thank the traditional owners for sharing this beautiful land that we all love, and for keeping the land, sky, waterways and animals all in great condition for thousands of years, not only for themselves but for all the generations to come.
We hope all our families were able to rest and recharge over the long weekend. It’s hard to believe how quickly the term is flying by! We have a busy few weeks ahead, with our swimming program set to begin in Week 7, always a highlight for our students. A swimming schedule has been sent out to families this week.
Outdoor Learning Day
Outdoor Classroom Day was held on Thursday 6th November, and what a fantastic day it was! This event is a wonderful opportunity to take learning beyond the classroom walls and make the most of our beautiful outdoor spaces.
Students took part in a range of engaging activities, from exploring mass and capacity on the basketball court to embarking on an epic bug hunt for a data collection lesson. A big thank you to Milly for organising such a fun and enriching day of outdoor learning.
Year 1 Dinner
Our Year 1 students are looking forward to a very special Year 1 Dinner next Tuesday! Jen and Kate have planned an evening full of fun and excitement — from circus skills to parachute games and everything in between.
A huge thank you to Jen and Kate for creating such a memorable experience for our Year 1 students!
Prep Breakfast
Next week, our Prep students have a special event to look forward to, the Prep Breakfast on Thursday morning! Students will be arriving bright and early to share a delicious breakfast with their teachers and classmates.
We are so proud of all our Prep students and the amazing progress they have made this year. What a lovely way to celebrate together over a bowl of cereal and some toast! A big thank you to our wonderful Prep team for organising this special morning.
Public Speaking Competition
The 2025 Old Orchard Primary School Public Speaking Competition is just around the corner!
Rounds will take place across the coming weeks:
- Week 7: Class heats
- Week 8: Year-level finals
- Grand Final: Thursday 5 December at 12:30pm in Drayton Hall
All students are welcome to enter, even if they were winners last year! Students will receive more information from their classroom teachers in the coming days. We can’t wait to hear the creative and confident speeches our students prepare!
