Dear Families, Students and Community Members,

As we near the end of the 2025 school year, the sense of achievement and momentum across the College is clear. The final weeks always bring a flurry of activity, and this year is no exception.

Our Year 7–9 students have now completed their benchmark assessments and are preparing to share their learning and growth at next week’s Student-Led Conferences and end of year celebration days. Exams are underway for our Year 10 and 11 cohorts, while our Year 12 senior students are completing the last of their VCAA assessments — an important milestone in their secondary journey.

Term 4 has been an incredibly dynamic and rewarding period for teaching and learning. I want to acknowledge the commitment, focus, and perseverance our students have shown throughout the year, as well as the ongoing support and professionalism of our staff. Together, we’ve continued to build a strong, positive learning culture where every student is encouraged to strive for their personal best.

This year has also seen the successful introduction of our new Middle School sub-school, encompassing Years 9 and 10. Establishing three sub-schools — Junior (7–8), Middle (9–10), and Senior (11–12) — has provided more tailored support for students at each stage of their schooling. The Middle School model has been particularly effective in fostering stronger connections, clearer expectations, and a smoother transition into the senior years. It has been wonderful to see the sense of belonging and confidence this structure has helped create for our students.

As we move toward the final weeks of the year, I’d like to highlight a few key achievements and updates:

Personal Headphone and Earphone Use at Mordialloc College

At Mordialloc College, we are committed to maintaining a focused and respectful learning environment where communication and engagement are prioritised. To support this, we ask all families to remind their children of the school’s expectations regarding headphone and earphone use.

  • Mobile Phones and Headphones should be kept in students’ lockers and are only to be used when directed by the classroom teacher as part of a learning activity. Students should not be wearing headphones during teacher instruction, when the class is being addressed, or when they are speaking with staff. To encourage social connection and positive interactions, headphones are not to be worn during recess or lunchtime.

  • Headphones for Wellbeing In some cases, students with diagnosed conditions may require the use of noise-cancelling headphones or earplugs to support their learning. In line with the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA) policy for special arrangements, such use must be supported by medical documentation (e.g. from a psychologist or psychiatrist) and approved by the Disability and Inclusion Coordinator.

We appreciate the support of families in reinforcing these expectations, helping us ensure that Mordialloc College remains a place where all students can learn, communicate, and connect effectively.

Honouring Remembrance Day

This week, Mordialloc College commemorated Remembrance Day with our Middle School Captains, Charlotte Ellem and George Horesji, proudly representing the school at a local service. They attended the Long Beach RSL service in Chelsea, joining other community members in paying tribute to the bravery and sacrifices of those who have served our country.

At 11 am, our entire school paused as all learning stopped for a minute of silence, accompanied by the music of The Last Post playing across the campus. This moment of reflection allowed students and staff to honour the legacy of those who served.

We are immensely proud of the respect and maturity shown by our student leaders, our Middle School Captains, and the wider school community. Together, we say: We will remember them.

Career Explorer Program – A Day of Discovery and Inspiration

Our Year 9 students recently took part in the Career Explorer Program, gaining hands-on experience across a range of career pathways. The program, held at the Moorabbin and Chadstone campuses, allowed students to explore three exciting streams — Construction Essentials, Renewable Futures, and Caring Careers.

At Chadstone, students in Construction Essentials built real projects using timber, plaster, paint and brick, rotating through several trade areas to discover which pathways sparked their interest. Over at Moorabbin, students in Renewable Futures wired, tested and powered a lighting circuit using solar energy, while those in Caring Careers explored health and community service roles through interactive workshops — from CPR to lab science.

Our students were fantastic throughout the day — engaged, curious and enthusiastic. They represented our school with pride and came away inspired by the many possibilities ahead.

Awards Night

We are excited to announce that the Mordialloc College Awards Night will be held on Wednesday, 10th December. Invitations for students selected to attend this event will be sent to families soon.

For students who receive an award but are not invited to the Awards Night, presentations will be made at the final year-level assembly. We look forward to celebrating the hard work and achievements of all our students as we wrap up another fantastic year at Mordialloc College!

Year 10 and 11 Exams Begin Smoothly

This week, Year 10 and 11 students at Mordialloc College began their end-of-year exams, and we are pleased to report a smooth start. Students arrived prepared and focused, and the sessions have been well-organised, thanks to the efforts of both our teachers and support staff. These exams provide an important opportunity for students to demonstrate their understanding of the year’s learning and to practise the skills they’ll need in their future studies.

We wish all of our Year 10 and 11 students the best as they continue their exams, and we appreciate the commitment they’ve shown throughout the year.
