VET Allied Health placement- real world learning
Each Thursday for the past five weeks, our VET Allied Health students have been undertaking Structured Workplace Learning; a compulsory component of their studies.
Recently, Mary-Ann Sait and I had the pleasure of visiting Amali Fitzpatrick, Josie Larmour and Sheena Fitzpatrick at their respective workplaces.
Josie undertook her placement with East Wimmera Health Services at their Charlton campus, while Amali and Sheena travelled to St. Arnaud to Kara Court Nursing Home. During their placement, the girls shadowed a range of staff and assisted with duties such as planned activities, making beds and assisting with the movement of patients and residents. The girls noted how beneficial it was to be able to apply what they were learning in their Certificate III studies to a real-world setting. The experience enabled them to gain insight into the complexities and responsibilities associated with different facets of the health care industry.
Tomorrow, the students will return for their final day of class, where they will reflect and de-brief with their trainer Sheryn, share their experiences, finalise their assessments and submit their workplace journal.
Well done to the girls for being such wonderful ambassadors for the NCTTC.
