Honour and a privilege

‘They shall grow not old,

As we that are left grow old.

Age shall not weary them,

Nor the years condemn.

At the going down of the sun,

And in the morning,

We will remember them.’

It was an honour and a privilege for our Year 11 Student Leaders to be involved in the Remembrance Day Service at St George’s Cathedral on 11 November. Our Year 7 cohort also joined the congregation for a service to remember the sacrifices made by service men and women who have committed their lives to preserve the values of peace and democracy that we all enjoy today – Lest we Forget.

New Year 9 House Prefects

Our inaugural Year 9 House Prefects will work to support the ongoing development of positive House spirit and camaraderie at our various Interhouse events, competitions and carnivals. They will also play an active role during each House Week each term and lead the Middle Years Student Led Chapel services in 2026.

This is an exciting new leadership opportunity and I congratulate the following on their very well-deserved appointments.

Cowan: Ava Heavey, Mitchell Clarke & Ben Clarke

Gandhi: James Locsei, Fieke Potter & Harshika Santhakumar

Lincoln: Lily Robertson, Tessa Sinclair & Charlie Hewitt

Mandela: Leilah Pooley & Annabel Moggach

Well done on exams

As we edge ever closer to the end of the school year, this week has seen our Year 10 and 11 students tackle the demands of their Semester Two Exams. Crucial for many as they strive to meet prerequisites for Year 11 subject selections or achieve their lofty goals for their end of Year 11 subject grades, our students have approached these exams with maturity and stoicism. I have been impressed with their attitude and efforts. Whatever their final mark, they have worked hard and given of their best – well done!

Year 9 Camp

The Year 9s head off on their much-anticipated Year 9 Camp on Monday. This is the first of our camps to work with an external company – Growth Hunting. Growth Hunting will be working across our Year 8 – 10 Camps Program from this year to develop a positive mindset and character strengths skills program as part of each of the year group camps. Their work with both students and staff will look at identifying key character strengths, harnessing resilience and grit, establishing a growth mind set and seeking to inspire our students to work hard to become the very best version of themselves. The pre-camp events have been well received by students and staff and I look forward to hearing their many camp stories and adventures on their return. Thank you also to those parents who attended the Year 9 Camp workshop this week. I hope you gained much from the insights provided to you on the night.

Cowan House announcement

The excitement about Cowan House continues to build. Today saw the announcement of the 2026 Cowan House Students and Cowan House PCG Tutors. This is a huge change for us as a school and I thank all those students who have submitted their well thought out expressions of interest to become part of the inaugural members of Cowan House under the leadership of Mr Adam Edwards, supported by Cowan House Captain – Zara Jones, Cowan House School Prefect – Bella Prayudi and our Cowan House Year 9 prefects Ava, Mitchell and Ben. See the following page for the list of names!

Mr Edwards is eager to start working with everyone connected with Cowan House, to order their new House shirts, to choreograph the Cowan House Sync Swim performance and to establish a strong House Chant ahead of the Interhouse Swimming Carnival in Term One next year. He tells me he will have his first House Meeting next week once Year 9s return from camp – so if you are in Cowan House look out for the details on SEQTA of your very first House Meeting. I am excited to see the four Houses in full operation next year – let the positive House spirit and healthy interhouse competitive sense of rivalry begin!

The weeks ahead

With two-and-a-half school weeks of the year to go, I remind all families that any early departure from school for students requires my approval. I can be contacted for such matters via email on principal@stgeorges.wa.edu.au

Our Festival of Learning (Years 7 – 10) and Transition to Year 12 Week (Year 11) make learning here at St George’s vibrant, fun, creative and inspired to conclude the year. It is a chance for students to be learning differently outside of the classroom and to mix with students in their whole year group or House as opposed to just their classes as we head towards holidays. Term Four concludes on Wednesday 10 December with the 2025 edition of The Ascalon scheduled to be delivered on the last day of term.

I look forward to seeing many of our families at the various academic awards, music concerts and celebratory presentation events set to conclude the 2025 school year so splendidly.

Warmest wishes for the weekend ahead,

Mrs Tina Campbell
