CURRICULUM FOCUS
In Reading this week we will begin learning about predicting before reading a text.
VOCABULARY
Predicting: when we predict we are making a good guess about what we think might happen in a book based on the title and other clues on the front cover such as the picture.
Title: name of the book
ACTIVITIES YOU CAN DO AT HOME TO SUPPORT YOUR CHILD'S LEARNING
Using a book that your child hasn’t read (e.g. a dot book from their blue satchel or a picture story book you have at home or a book from the library) complete the following:
- Read the title to your child
- Ask your child what they can see is happening in the picture on the front cover
- Ask your child to make a prediction of what they think will happen in the book based on the clues from the front cover (using the title or the pictures or both)
- Your child could then draw their prediction or say it to you or another person in your household.
