SPORTS LEADERS 

YEAR 3&4 BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT

Over the past month or so our Marian and Xavier Sports Leaders have been working together during their Leadership Hour time to plan a fun and inclusive basketball tournament for any interested Year 3/4 and Year 5/6 students.  This week their tournaments finally kicked off, beginning with the Year 3/4’s on Tuesday and Wednesday.  The Thomas Sherry basketball court was a scene of competitive half-court basketball game action!  Well done to Finlay D, Olivia B, Hugh G, Sofia L , Scarlett H, Charlie L and Josh K; our Marian and Xavier Leaders.  It was great to witness them all putting their leadership skills into practice; giving out clear instructions, answering questions, clarifying rules, refereeing and managing all the ‘intensities’ of a sporting tournament!  Well done to Team 3 who were the winners of this week’s Year 3&4 tournament!  We look forward to next week’s games with our Year 5 & 6’s.

* FOOTBALLERS:  MUST bring a mouthguard – no mouthguard, no play

*GAMES PLAYED:  approx. 1.00pm – 2.30pm.

HOME GAMES:  St Finbar’s 2  vs St Patrick’s Murrumbeena:

Football:   Hurlingham Oval #1 (larger oval), Nepean Hwy, Brighton East. (Mr Tyndall)

Netball:  St. Finbar’s school courts.  (Miss Happell).

Footballers to be picked up by St. Pat’s bus at 12.40pm, return to school by 3.00pm. 

AWAY GAMES:  St. Mary’s Hampton vs  St. Finbar’s 1: 

Football: RG Chisholm Reserve, Duncan St. Sandringham  (Mrs Thompson)   

Netball: St. Mary’s Hampton PS school courts, 59 Holyrood St, Hampton (Miss Bourke)

To depart at 12.30pm by bus. Return by 3.20pm

HOOPTIME DATES ARE SET!

It’s always a highly anticipated sporting opportunity for our Year 3-6 students to try out for our HoopTime basketball tournament teams.  This year our Dendy District has made the decision to not hold a specific Dendy schools tournament, but instead each school keen to participate in Hooptime are securing their own preferred HoopTime tournament dates, to better cater for all schools and team entries allowed.  

St. Finbar’s HoopTime tournament dates are:

Senior HoopTime (Year 5&6):  Friday 9th August (T3, Wk 4)

Junior HoopTime (Year 3&4: Tuesday 20th August (T3, Wk 6)

All Year 3-6 students will be invited to sign up to try out for these teams.Four teams will be selected for each day:  x1 All Star Boys team, x1 All Star Girls team and x2 Future Stars teams (mixed gender).  Trials will be held in the first couple of weeks in Term 3.
