Your Voice - Your SRC

Introducing this year's presidents

My name is Pranit Praveen and along with Milja Lin we are pleased to introduce ourselves as the Co-Presidents of the Student Representative Council for 2024. We are joined by a fantastic group of students, all of whom are excited to be a part of a group working to improve GEC this year. Our job is to advocate for student voices and work to make positive changes within our school community. If you have any questions or ideas please feel free to come talk to us at any time. Led by Mr Chiumello, we would like to share with you some stories of recent successes we have had this year.

ANZAC Day

On Wednesday 24th April, during period 1, we had a whole school assembly to remark on the remembrance of ANZAC Day. During the assembly, we had a member of the Royal Air Force come in to give us a speech on the history of ANZAC Day. This speech was truly an insight into the hearts of the people who put their lives on the line for us. To accompany this, we had a member of Oakleigh Brass to play the bugle. The community at Glen Eira College truly appreciates those who came over in their own time to help make our experience better. During the days of the 23rd and 24th of April, The SRC was selling ANZAC pins to raise donations for the RSL. If you had kept an eye out, you might have seen members of the SRC walking around with a box of pins. We wish to thank all who donated to the ANZAC Appeal.

SRC Athletics Barbeque

On Friday 26th April, the SRC put together a barbeque to raise awareness and donations for ‘State Schools' Relief’. The SRC sold sausages and vegetable burgers which raised significant funds for State Schools' Relief. This year’s event was a massive hit, many thanks to the volunteers as we managed to sell out all of our sausages by the end of the day, which is something we all should be proud of. The entire SRC team would like to give a big thanks Nicole, Milja Lin, Estelle Lebeau, Asher Greenblat, Ayana Mangat, Mr Chiumello, Mr Lou and everyone else who helped contribute to the success of this event, we appreciate you all taking the time out of your day to help.

Cultural Diversity Day

On 21st March 2024, the SRC in collaboration with the BOCI committee and Library Monitors celebrated GEC’s cultural diversity by having a casual dress day on Harmony Day. GEC’s diverse range of cultures were recognised by encouraging students to wear clothing of cultural significance. The event was a huge success, raising a large donation to the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre (ASRC).

Upcoming Mother’s Day Fundraiser

To celebrate Mother’s Day, GEC will be participating in the Mother’s Day classic on 12th May 2024. To further support raising funding for Breast and Ovarian Cancer Research, the SRC will be holding a fundraising event at the school on Friday 17th May, donations will be collected on this day.
