St Joey's STATE SWIMMING FINALISTS!  

We look forward to watching both Alfred H and Lachy L swimming on the LIVESTREAM VIDEO of the State Swimming Championships THIS FRIDAY, April 19th.  Alfred was awarded 1st in Freestyle MC and 1st in Butterfly Multi-Class Events at the recent Southern Metro Region Finals. Lachie was awarded 2nd in Freestyle MC and 2nd in Backstroke MC, a wonderful achievement at Region Level.  His performance in his backstroke earnt him an invitation to the State Championships in his Multi-Class Classification, based on his times. 

BOTH BOYS WILL NOW ADVANCE TO STATE SWIMMING CHAMPIONSHIPS!

The School Sport Victoria website has the boys listed as swimming in the following events at these approximate times for those wishing to join us in supporting our two school mates : 

Event 50 (approx time - 11.20am) - ALFRED HINDLE - Boys 12/13 50m Butterfly (Multi-Class)  

Event 54 (approx time - 11.30am) - ALFRED HINDLE - Boys 12/13 50m Freestyle (Multi-Class)  

Event 116 (approx time - 1.30pm) - LACHLAN LEVER - Boys 12/13 50m Backstroke (Multi-Class)

Whole School Cross Country - Week 2 -         Monday 22nd April 

This will be held at Sorrento Football Oval and we will require the help of many parents. This will be a HOUSE TEAM SPIRIT Day and will require the students to wear their HOUSE TEAM COLOURS or school sports uniform with a touch of their colour. 

 

Estimated distances and age groups:

Prep - half a lap (approx 200m)

Yr 1 -     1 lap (450m) 

Yr 2 -     2 laps (approx 900m)

Yr 3 -     3 laps (approx 1400m)

Yr 4 -     3 laps (approx 1400m)

Yr 5 -     4 laps (approx  1900m)

Yr 6 -     4 laps (approx  1900m)

 

For the Years 3 to 6 students, this day will also serve as a School Level Trial to select our St Joseph's Cross Country Team that will compete at the District Event. 

An Operoo was sent out asking for helpers for this day. Please complete this Operoo promptly to assist me with the organisation and preparation for this event. 

Cross Country Training with SCHOOL COMMUNITY SPIRIT!

Starting THIS FRIDAY, 19TH APRIL, we have invited our neighbouring school, Sorrento Primary, to unite with us and train together in preparation for the upcoming Cross Country events at school level, district level and division level.  It will be offerred to ALL Year 3, 4, 5 and 6 students who are keen to improve in their long distance running.  We are very fortunate to have the expertise of Jannica Cleary to assist us with our training for this each Friday. 

 

An Operoo was sent out on Monday for you to complete if your child would like to join in with this and to enlist your help with this program.  Held at Sorrento Primary from 8.10-8.40am, it will run for6 Friday mornings before school, with a light breakfast served from our canteen afterwards for the participants. 

Summer Lightning Premierships for Yr 5/6        Week 2 - Wednesday 24th April  

Students will compete in their choice of Fully Loaded Softball, Basketball or Volleystars on that day.  It is expected that all students from Year 5/6 take part unless medically unwell.  Parent help has been requested via the Operoo on Tuesday.  Some Year 4 students who play in these sports out of school have been invited to fill teams where required.
