Learning and Teaching

Dear Parents ,

Welcome back to Term  Two. I hope you have all had a relaxing holiday and enjoyed the break.

This term our Inquiry topic is Balance. We are responsible for taking action to ensure we sustain a harmonious balance in the world as our indigenous people taught us.

Through our Inquiry unit of learning of Balance, Jane Byrne has proposed  a Fibonacci garden for the drive at St Joseph’s. Fibonacci was an Italian mathematician who later wrote Liber abaci , Book of the Abacus, the first European work on Indian and Arabian mathematics, which introduced Hindu & Arabic numerals to Europe. Born Pisa 1170 and known for the Fibonacci sequence of numbers.

Our big questions for this term will have a History and Sustainability focus.

Prep:

God calls us to take care of his world of creation so how can we enjoy it and keep it beautiful for all to enjoy as it changes over time?

1/2:

How do our actions make us responsible for keeping a balance in our lives as it changes?

3/4:

We are responsible for taking action to ensure we sustain a harmonious balance in the world as our indigenous people taught us.

5/6:

How can we ensure a sustainable future?

Its that time of year again:

Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge

The Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge is now open. The PRC application offers a range of exciting features including:

·  access to a library catalogue (including book images and blurbs)

·  a modern user-friendly interface

·  rewarding students with badges as challenge milestones are achieved

·  the option for students to mark books as a favourite, give them a star rating or complete a book review

The Challenge is open to all Victorian children from birth to Year 10 in recognition of the importance of reading for literacy development. It is not a competition; but a personal challenge for children to read a set number of books by 6 September 2024.

Children from Prep to Year 2 are encouraged to read or ‘experience’ 30 books with their parents and teachers. Children from Year 3 to Year 10 are challenged to read 15 books.

All children who meet the Challenge will receive a certificate of achievement signed by the Victorian Premier and former Premiers.
