This Week's Notes

Happy Mothers' Day!

Happy Mother's Day to all the incredible mums, grandmothers and carers in our community! You are the first educators, teaching love, kindness, and resilience with every embrace and every lesson.

Please know that we appreciate everything that you do every day.

Mother's Day Stall

Our thanks and gratitude go to our school's Parents' Club for setting up another beautiful Mother's Day Stall on Monday 6th May for all our students. The students were so excited about this and most had already purchased a gift for their mothers, grandmothers, carers or special females in their lives before school had even started!  We hope you enjoy your gifts.

SGSSA Cross Country at Tarrington

What an amazing achievement by Thomas Hurley, Emma Thomas, Cooper Leese and Ivy Luhrs who competed and did so well against some tough older students at Cross Country at Tarrington on Wednesday. Thomas picked up third place, Emma came in second place and Cooper fifth place.  Thank you so much to all of the students, parents, carers and spectators who went along. In particular thanks to Trish for being our representative on the day.

Professional Development Session - Dan Pedro Behaviour Management

On Wednesday, Miss Gray and I together with approx another 300 teachers and principals attended professional learning on Using effective strategies for behaviour of concerns at schools, run by Dan Pedro, Behaviour Analyst who has been working with the schools at Wimmera region.

The day provided us with many moments of confirmation and positive education strategies we can readily adapt and use at our school. Positive Education, which includes programs such as School Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS) and Positive Behavioural Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is a evidence based DET program for government schools as well as many private schools where the focus is shifted from deficit approach to positive pre-correction and teaching of expected behaviours via such programs.

Open Morning next Tuesday

On Tuesday 14th May we will hold an open morning for family/grandparents/special friends and new families to join us in class between 9-11am.  This is always a day that our students look forward to, to have their special guest sit with them in class and to show them how smart they all are!

Any families in our district that have young children and are considering Cavendish PS for their child's education are more than welcome to join us on this morning.

We know that parents have donated a lot of food lately with the Red Gum Festival and Golf Day but we would appreciate it if you could provide a small plate of morning tea for this.

Looking forward to welcoming our special visitors to our beautiful little school.

Book Fair

Book Fair (by Scholastic) is organised to run on 17th May, Friday morning. The students will have a chance to look at the books before the fair to see which ones they might like to buy. This will provide our students more opportunity to purchase books of interest and continue their reading both at school and at home. We now read and log our reading as well as bringing our reading journals every day for 5/6s. It is important that we all support children at home by getting involved in this reading before they go to sleep every night.

Division Cross Country Warrnambool

After their run at Tarrington, Cooper (9/10 Boys), Thomas (11 Boys) and Emma (11 Girls), all qualified to attend the Division Cross Country in Warrnambool next Friday, 17th May at Albert Park in Warrnambool. More information to follow on uEducateus next week. The organising school requested if any of the parents would like to do marshalling on the day to help out. Please let us know if interested.
