Year 6 Newsletter

Dear parents and carers,

One month down for Term 2 already! We are well and truly into the swing of things, with inter school sport going smoothly, Literacy Circles up and running (more on that below), and assessment week finished. As it was assessment week this week, we have been listening to everyone's reading throughout the week, which has been lovely.

This week in Year 6

Maths: Our multiplication unit continues, and this week we have explored using multiplication for area problems, and looked at multiplying decimal numbers. It has been wonderful to see everyone pushing themselves outside their comfort zones and attempting to climb the Challenge Ladder.

Reading: Our Literacy Circles unit officially started this week. Books and groups have been sorted, packs sent home, tasks uploaded to Google Classroom and work is well underway. We will begin our meetings next week. Literacy Circles is a heavy workload and can be quite an adjustment for some. Please help to make sure your child is reading their book at home, and taking notes which they can bring back into the classroom to help complete their roles.

Writing: Students have continued to work on persuasive writing, with some very strong, convincing writers in the room. I even heard that someone in class was able to use some of the strategies in this unit to persuade their family to allow them something they’d been wanting!

Inquiry: In inquiry this week we looked at arguments supporting and opposing federation. The students also had the chance to work on their own colonies with alliances and trades starting to begin.
