From the Acting Principal
Reconciliation week
May 27th - June 3rd.
Fostering inclusivity and mutual respect, National Reconciliation Week at Hamlyn Views is an opportunity for our students to discover more about the shared histories, cultures and achievements of our wonderful country. It is a chance for us to continue to build connections and to learn to truly value the histories, cultures and futures of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples.
Education Week
Thank-you to everyone who came along to school last week for ‘Education Week’ activities. It was great to see families sharing some time with their child, in classrooms and out, celebrating the theme 'Spotlight on STEM’
Staff Appointments
We welcome the following staff to Hamlyn Views School this term; Demi Lucas, Indiana Studham, Jessica George, Jem Pryse, Makenzie Clift, Meg Brassington, and Rebecca George.
Education Support Day
On Thursday 16th May we acknowledged the invaluable contribution to our school of our dedicated Education Support staff. A special morning tea was held and lovely cards made and distributed by students. Our school is grateful for the contribution of these hard working staff members encompassing classroom, Allied Health, Admin, Technology and Maintenance staff . Our school couldn’t operate without them!
Student Free Day
Friday June 7th is a student free day. Staff will be onsite undertaking professional learning in the areas of Wellbeing and Teaching and learning. Please note that school will also be closed on Monday June 10th for the King’s Birthday public holiday
Stay Well this Winter
Last week staff and students who nominated had their flu immunisations. It is one thing that can be done to stay well this winter. As ensuring the safety of everyone is important to us, staying home if you’re unwell is another thing we can do to support vulnerable members of our school community. We are already seeing high levels of colds, Covid and viruses across the school which impact both staff and student attendance. Thank you for your understanding when changes have to be made to programs and routines.
Dogs Connect
Hamlyn Views is a Dogs Connect School, with our own wellbeing dog Jasper onsite to support our students. To maintain the integrity of our Dogs Connect and school policies, we kindly request that only authorised dogs accompany visitors onto the premises. While we understand the love for all of our four-legged friends, ensuring the safety and comfort of all students, staff, and visitors is a priority and your cooperation is greatly appreciated.
If you do have an assistance dog please don’t hesitate to come and discuss this with us.
Thank you for helping us maintain a safe and supportive environment for everyone at Hamlyn Views.
May Conference
The principal Class Team will be attending the Principal’s Association of Specialist Schools (PASS) – Leading Communities Conference this week. These are always a great way to meet with and learn from our colleagues from specialist schools across the state of Victoria and we look forward to sharing information with staff on our return. Thank you to members of our leadership team who will manage the school in our absence.
Student (SSG) meetings
Term 2 SSG meetings will be held in Week 10, beginning on Monday June 17th. Information about meetings will be provided shortly. We try to be as flexible as we can in regards to timing and mode. Please discuss options with your child’s teacher to find a suitable meeting time. Student mid-year reports will be sent home before SSG meetings.
Yours sincerely,
Julie Brown
Principal
