Reflection

In Giving We Receive

All I received, I gave away,

in ever new gifts, in ever new songs.

-Rabindranath Tagore

Life swings us between the rhythm of giving and receiving. Too often 'giving' maintains a strong hold on us and 'receiving' shrinks significantly when we are involved in service. As our Grade 4 students celebrate their First Eucharist and forming a deeper friendship with Christ and being called to the service of others let us reflect what do we most want to share with others? What do we most desire to receive?

Meditation

Sit quietly and notice the rhythm of your breathing. Breathing in your receive life giving oxygen. Breathing out you give carbon dioxide to the parts of nature that cannot live without it. The rhythm of our breathing is similar to the rhythm of ministry.

We breathe in - we receive

We breathe out - we give.

Reading Luke 6:38

'Give and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap; for the measure you give will be the measure you get back'.

There is a time to give and a time to receive

a time to breathe in and a time to breathe out.

a time to speed up and a time to slow down.

a time to speak and a time to listen.

a time to hold on and a time to let go.

a time to serve and a time to be served.

a time to laugh and a time to be serious.

a time to extend kindness and a time to receive it.

a time to embrace and a time to be embraced.

A time to love and a time to be loved.
