Walking in Warburton

Teacher - Mathematics

This term,  I joined the Year 9 Bushwhacked students on their Warburton camp.  It was an incredible experience that really showcased the students' skills and strategies for collaboration and resilience.

The camp included exploring Warburton and Warrandyte, climbing through a cave with the Yarra River (Birrarung) running through it, and kayaking on the same river.

Evenings were spent around the campfire, where each student shared creative, engaging and well researched stories and acknowledgements of country. The students were self-sufficient in taking on the challenge of preparing their own meals, with some examples of their culinary creations being homemade naan bread and chilli con carne!

One of the most memorable aspects of the camp was the shared moments (up to 5 minutes) of complete silence when exploring new places. These pauses allowed us to fully immerse ourselves in the natural beauty around us, heightening our appreciation for the environment and for each other.

Getting to see the students collaborate effectively and embrace new experiences was truly inspiring, making my first Bushwhacked camp at BSC an unforgettable adventure!
