Senior School Excursion - Sydney

Fifty seven students from Yr 9 - Academy are in Sydney for their Senior School excursion.  They braved very cold conditions as they waited for the train on Monday morning and arrived at Central Station after an eight and a half hour journey. The excursion will provide a number of great educational opportunities ranging from visiting Parliament House, the State Library and the Jewish Museum to a tour of the Rugby League Centre of Excellence. Year 9 and 10 students will prepare meals for the homeless with the Salvation Army as well as completing a mapping activity around the Sydney CBD. Thursday will be a relaxing day enjoying Taronga Zoo.

Zorb Football

For the final three days of Term 2, Uralla Central School was able to rent five zorb balls from the Armidale PCYC.

This was to accompany our PDHPE Elective topic 'Alternative/Hybrid Sports' but also afforded us the opportunity to offer students some fun activities. The main activity was to play some 2 v 2 soccer games in the hall. Zorb balls are inflated rubber orbs which allow a person to fit inside, with only a persons legs coming out of the bottom. The balls are see-through, though it does obscure vision somewhat. When two players run into each other, there can be a lot of rolling around. Naturally comedic antics ensue.

We were able to offer students, from Year 5 through to Academy II, the option of playing 'bubble soccer' both during class and at break times. At numerous intervals, staff members also participated, to the elation and amusement of students.

Enormous fun was had all round. We hope that we can offer more opportunities like this in the future.
