Principal's Report
Mufti Day for the Cancer Council
A big thank you to the students and staff who participated in the school's fund raising day at the end of last term for the Cancer Council. The day was organised by senior students in memory of their friend who recently lost her battle with leukaemia. Well done everyone in raising over $350.00 for the charity.
Sydney Excursion
Our senior school students are currently in Sydney for their major excursion and we are hearing about how much fun they are having. Our teachers have secured an amazing program for our students to compliment their learning in our classrooms. Thanks to our amazing staff for providing our students with such an enriching experience.
Public Education Week
Next week, public, high and central schools will celebrate Public Education Week. The theme of Proud to Belong certainly encapsulates the overall feeling in our school where we are committed to providing each and every individual with the guidance and support to be the best we can possibly be.
As part of this year's Education Week events, schools from the Armidale Principal Network will be holding an awards ceremony next Tuesday at Martins Gully Public School, to present three awards from each school to a student, staff member and member of the community to recognise their service and commitment to our schools. I am very pleased to announce the following recipients of our Uralla Central School awards:
Student Award: Déchen Kandro
Staff Award: Jodie Taylor
Community Award: Tony Egan
We will congratulate our award winners in a more formal way next week, but I extend my congratulations to all award winners and thank them for their commitment to our school.
Education Week Activities @ UCS - Wednesday 7 August
Parents and carers are most welcome to come along and join us from 10.00am for our assembly and then to stay for our events so please consider coming along.
Congratulations Déchen
Our school captain, Déchen Kandro was a finalist in this year's UNE/Let's Hang It! art exhibition at the New England Regional Art Museum (NERAM). A special ceremony was held last Friday night where winners and runner-ups were announced. I congratulate Déchen on being awarded Highly Commended in such a prestigious exhibition of student works from across Northern NSW. Well done Déchen!
Term 3 Calendar
I hope the calendar we sent home on the first day back this term is helpful for families. The purpose of the calendar is for you to add events as they appear throughout the term. These dates will be updated in each edition of the newsletter. Our newsletter will be published each Wednesday on even weeks (Weeks 2, 4, 6, 8, 10). Please find a digital copy below if you need another copy:
PSSA Zone Athletics Carnival
All the best to our students who are attending the PSSA Zone Athletics Carnival in Armidale next Friday. Students who qualify at this event will then compete at the North West Carnival in Tamworth on Wednesday 4 September.
Kindergarten 2025
We have a wonderful group of students who have commenced their transition to Big School as part of our Kindergarten Transition Program. We are still accepting enrolments for our program and encourage anyone wishing to join us to contact the school. Thank you to Mrs Endacott and Mrs Koina for making each week a rewarding experience for our prospective students.
Please see further information below:
Year 7 2025
We are currently organising our transition days for our students in partner schools who will be enrolling at our school in Year 7 next year. Mr Brown and I will be reaching out to our local schools in the coming weeks to meet with Year 6 students in our local public schools and inviting them to come and spend a day with us later this term and in Term 4. If you are aware of any student who may be thinking of coming to our school next year, please encourage then to contact us at the school.
NAPLAN Results
Student reports from this year's National Assessment Program - Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) were provided to students yesterday. The NAPLAN reports give you a snap shot of your child's learning on the day they completed the assessments. If you have any questions regarding your child's results, please contact us at school. Students in Year 9 who are currently on the Sydney excursion will be provided with their results next week.
Attendance at School
With regular school attendance your child will have the best opportunity to learn and improve their wellbeing. We are here to support your child to be ready and engaged for school. Please contact us if you need any assistance with your child’s attendance.
