Year 7 and 8 Girls Soccer

On Wednesday the 19th of June, our Year 7 and 8 Girls Soccer Team headed to Wendouree West Reserve to participate in the junior soccer tournament. Our girls’ team, captained by Hazel Coleman, had a thorough warm-up, and were excited about the 11am start.

The first team we faced was Ballarat High School. We started off with Skye, Katie, Lexi B, and Riley C creating a strong line of defence. Hazel stopped three of Ballarat High’s goal attempts and booted the ball down to our midfielders, Zaylee and Shaelee. At the end of the first half, there was still no score from either team. After a half-time pep talk from Miss Hughes, we were ready to go out firing and show the other schools what we were made of.

Meagan kicked the ball to Milly Kerr, who was wearing the famous number 20. Some spectators questioned whether it was Sam Kerr on the field, or a Year 7. Sam, I mean Milly, dribbled the ball forward, striking it so hard that when the BHS goalie caught it, it pushed her over the goal line, leading to a score for Beaufort. The team was ecstatic! We quickly reset, this time Milly passing the ball down to Maddison Wade to slot our second and final goal for the game, leading us to our first win, 2-0.

In our second game, the girls faced a formidable Mount Clear team. Despite several attempts at goal, we were unable to come away with the win, however the team's resilience was evident. Macey and Tess worked perfectly in the midfield, passing the ball to Lexi N and Summer. Katie and Skye tirelessly kicked the ball to our forward line, enabling our strong forwards to launch attacks. Even though we were defeated, the team's unwavering spirit was a victory. Our Best on Ground performances were awarded to the following girls for their constant efforts throughout the day:

Best on Ground

3 points - Milly Kerr

2 points - Maddison Wade

1 point - Skye Dridan

We are extremely proud of the team and their efforts. Everyone demonstrated great persistence and sportsmanship. Thanks to Mr Webb for organising the day and Miss Hughes for coaching.

Year 7 and 8 Boys Soccer

Our Year 8 Boys' Soccer Team also ventured to Ballarat, to compete in the Eureka Division Soccer. With Mr Webb taking on the role of coach and Finn Robbins captaining our first game, the boys were eager to get off to a good start. While Beaufort lacked experience, the other teams did not. This, however, didn't deter us.

During the first half against Mount Rowan, we only conceded one goal, thanks to the defensive efforts of Blake Beaton and Harvey Grant. Heading optimistically into the second half, we were determined to make a play up the field. We finally had success, with Baxter White dribbling the ball up the middle, however this expenditure of energy on the offence, cost us on the defensive end, resulting in an extra three goals being scored against us. Mount Rowan ran away final victors, with a score of 4-0.

Our second game was against the favourites, Ballarat High School, and we knew we had to work hard. Harvey went back into Goalkeeper, as Baxter led us with his captaincy skills. Although a tough game, we took our risks on the defensive end, with Louis Welsh and Jonah Burrill using their speed and endurance to push it forward. Despite our best efforts, BHS still kicked 11 goals.

Our final game was against Mount Clear, who had been strong all day and were looking to find some form before their next game, against Ballarat High School. Harvey captained our team from the Goalkeeper position, while the rest of the team, taking a few risks, set out to try to score a goal. This game was a lot more competitive, as Jonah and Louis refined their skills and Phin Caspersz manoeuvred the ball to create opportunities. Blake Beaton again performed spectacularly in the centre back position, shutting down many of Mount Clears' attempts.

A big thank you to the parents for showing their support, as well as Miss Hughes and Mr Webb for coaching on the day. Congratulations to both the girls' and boys’ teams on their performance and representing the school to a high standard.

State Cross Country

We would like to congratulate Thomas Grant and Billy Welsh on making it through to the State Level for Cross Country. This is an enormous achievement and both students should be incredibly proud of their efforts. They finished 70th and 48th respectively in their age groups.
