International Cuisine Served Locally
As a part of the VCE Food Studies unit, our class went on an excursion to Ballarat to explore food trends in the CBD and discover the different immigrant cuisines on offer.
First stop was Merkama Café, which specialises in Ethiopian cuisine, where we tried a wide range of foods, including silver beet, beef, lamb, lentils, beetroot with carrot and potato and fermented bread.
After our delicious meal, we walked around the Ballarat CBD to take note of the different cuisines served in Ballarat. We observed twenty-nine different food outlets, with Italian proving to be the most common, followed by Thai and then Japanese.
We had a great day out learning about the influence of international cuisine at a local level and we would like to thank our teachers, Ms Fischer and Mrs Powlett, for organising the excursion and sharing in our experience.
