This form group has been an energetic class. They are curious and interested, as well as being able to talk about their prior experiences, which flow into English often in entertaining ways. In writing tasks, I have often heard about their adventures on the land and animal encounters, as well as sports, hopes and successes! This group loves to read to the extent that many would keep reading their books until the bell goes. At present we are focusing on poetry and the group have written some heartfelt and insightful verse on personal outlooks and the many issues that face the world, illustrating the concerns of young people. 7J have moulded together as a close unit and all of us in the Year 7 Hub wish them even greater success and fun times in the later part of the year!
PE/HEALTH
In Health, the students of 7J have commenced a Unit on Respectful Relationships. They are currently undertaking a task expressing four aspects of their personal identity. While in Physical Education we have just moved from a Basketball Unit to Netball and Badminton.
MATHS
In Maths, 7J are relieved to have finished the CATs for the term. They began the term with the Food Truck Project and had fun making their 3D models.
Then it was on to Statistics where they learnt to draw stem-and-leaf plots and dot plots. The class can now calculate the mean, median, mode and range for a set of data. They finished off the topic by showing all their knowledge in a test.
SCIENCE
In 7J’s science class, the students made mouse trap race cars in pairs, which they then used to race one another. They made the cars out of cardboard, skewers, CD’s and a mouse trap. They all did so well considering the building part was quite difficult. The winners of the race were Oscar and Sonny. Second place winners were Tully and Flynn.
SYSTEMS
In Systems, students had to research, plan and construct their project. They were able to learn safely in the class room environment, mastering soldering, sanding and planing.
HUMANITIES
7J have been learning about famous pharaohs, the inundation of the Nile River, how the pyramids were built, and the eight-step mummification process as part of a history unit on Ancient Egypt in Humanities.
ART
Throughout first semester, 7J students have been developing skills in line, tone, colour, balance and form, using various mediums to complete some fantastic Visual Artworks. Throughout second semester they will be honing their skills in the Performing Arts. All the very best 7J! Enjoy your winter holidays … a well-earned break before Term 3.
