CURRICULUM FOCUS

We are learning to use a variety of sentence types in our writing.

VOCABULARY

Simple sentence:

A sentence made up of one independent clause.

Compound sentence:

A sentence made up of 2 independent clauses and a conjunction.

Complex sentence:

A sentence made up of an independent and a dependent clause.

Independent clause:

Makes sense on its own.

Dependent clause:

Needs an independent clause to make sense.

ACTIVITIES YOU CAN DO AT HOME TO SUPPORT YOUR CHILD'S LEARNING

Read through a book or an article and make a list of new or exciting words you find. Then practice putting those words into different sentences. Try and make exciting and interesting sentences.
