Springvale Rise Primary School Community Hub
To celebrate Refugee Week, the Community Hub hosted a variety of events including inviting hub members to share their stories in finding freedom. Children and women also enjoyed craft activities such as decorating hands and making boats to share their support for all refugees and migrants seeking a better future for themselves and their children.
In addition, we invited our Dandenong and Casey hub leaders to our Heights Campus for a special lunch extravaganza! Dildar Begum, one of our hub volunteers, taught the hub leaders how to make Chicken and Coconut Curry with noodles – a traditional Burmese dish. It was absolutely delicious, and the hub leaders had so much fun learning a cultural dish from our community.
On the Springvale Campus, the Women’s Wellbeing Group completed a three-part session ‘Respectful Relationships – Respect, Connect, Thrive’ program facilitated by the City of Casey. The women discussed many topics such as building healthy and respectful relationships, promoting positive attitudes and embedding a culture of respect and equality.
The women were each presented with a certificate and on the last session enjoyed some dancing, henna and eating a delicious meal together. For the Heights Campus, we have arranged for The Water Well Project to present a similar workshop to the Women’s Wellbeing Group in August.
We look forward to another exciting term in Community Hub with many exciting things planned such as our Annual Women’s Health forum with Dandenong South Primary School and our highly anticipated new Citizenship Class program to be held every Friday from 9.30am-11.30 during school terms.
