NAIDOC WEEK

Our wonderful grade five and six students have been channelling their creativity and literacy skills by writing poetry to enter a national NAIDOC Week poetry competition. This year NAIDOC week falls on the second week of school holidays - July 7th- 14th. Teachers across the school have planned several NAIDOC related activities for the first week back, but you can also celebrate NAIDOC at home these holidays!

NAIDOC Week is a time to celebrate the histories, cultures and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

There are several ways to celebrate both at home or by attending community events but first, it is important to acknowledge the history behind the event.

This year’s theme is Keep The Fires Burning! Blak, Loud and Proud  - if you would like to know more follow the link: https://www.naidoc.org.au/about/naidoc-theme

Many local councils and community organisations run free NAIDOC week activities that will keep your children entertained whist building important knowledge and understandings.

Below are the details of some local events, just click the links or copy them into your browser, to find more information.

If you would rather hibernate at home these holidays there are many children’s TV shows which explore concepts around NAIDOC week, you could watch one together and then discuss the content. Here are a few examples:
