What's Happening in the F/1 Classroom?
This fortnight we have focussed on the /m/ sound. We began by focusing on words and names we knew that had an /m/ sound at the beginning and then progressed to finding words with /m/ as the middle or ending sound, using visual assistance from Soundwaves.
Finley: ‘My word is compass and the /m/ sound is in the middle
Adam: ‘Monkey has an /m/ at the beginning’
Amara: ‘I found jam and it has an /m/ at the end’
Ryan: ‘Mat has an /m/ sound at the beginning
We have been focussing on our counting this fortnight, adding Auslan signs to the numbers 1 - 20, also learning hundred, thousand and million in Auslan. The students took turns to sign a number of their choice to the class and asked them to guess it. We are becoming more confident with their signing and our counting continues to improve with daily practice.
We had an amazing time at our swimming lessons in Seymour! The students enjoyed learning new skills such as duck diving, safe entries, kicking, breathing and correct stroke techniques. We also learnt how to safely rescue someone who is in trouble in the water, remember to keep ourselves safe, throwing kick boards and noodles to help someone get back to the edge. It was a big week, but the children coped amazingly well and learnt so much.
We had an absolute blast at the mini Olympics, which was organised completely by our 4/5/6 students! The children loved the 4 events of bean bag throw, tennis ball cannons, obstacle course and ping pong aiming. We cheered for each other, tried our best and showed amazing sportsmanship to all the other competitors. A huge thank you and congratulations to Shania and 4/5/6 for creating such an amazing whole school event.
We have had a fantastic semester of learning and growing. It's been amazing to see the children adjust to school life and learn all about our school routines. We would like to thank our parents for supporting us in educating your child by reading at home, letter identification tasks and continuing to practise our Numeracy skills.
