DANTE ALIGHIERI POETRY EXCURSION

MRS MARIA SALVO - LANGUAGES TEACHER (ITALIAN)

We are thrilled to share some wonderful news from our Italian Languages Learning Area.

On June 5th, eight of our talented Year 9/10 students participated in the prestigious Dante Alighieri Poetry Competition held at Melbourne University.  This event celebrates the beauty of the Italian language and literature, and our students had the unique opportunity to showcase their skills and passion for the language.

These dedicated students worked incredibly hard to prepare for the competition.  Each participant was required to learn an Italian poem and recite it in front of a judge. This not only involved memorising the text but also mastering pronunciation, intonation and emotional delivery of the poem.

The day was filled with excitement and students got the chance to visit the famous Lygon Street in Carlton where they were able to indulge in Italian food at Brunetti’s and choose from a wide variety of Italian delicacies such as pasta, pizza, arancini, Italian pastries and sweets.

This week we have been notified that the following students have been selected to follow through to the finals on Tuesday, 25th June.

We congratulate our finalists:

Scarlett Benham

Catherine Morpeth

Cienna McKenzie and

Tessa Fawcett (Tessa has now left the College)

We are immensely proud of all our participants for their hard work and commitment to language learning.  We wish them the best of luck for the next stage of the competition!
