Umoja update

Dear Koonung community

I thought the school might be interested in an update on Umoja Tanzania, whom KSC have supported over the years.

Umoja is a youth development and educational school in Arusha, one of the poorest areas on our planet.

Bev and I visited them in 2014 at their dilapidated rented premises. Classrooms were converted chicken coops. We committed to getting them into new premises.

In 2019, with KSC help, we ran a most successful Tastes of Tanzania fundraising dinner at the school.

In 2020, Umoja was donated an existing school that was badly run down. Progressively, we helped get the school up to standard. Finally, after a sanitation upgrade, Umoja moved into its new school in May 2023.

Additional construction work on the building has resumed, thanks to additional funding. The school is flourishing.
