Principals Report

Dear Chasers,

I hope this message finds you well. I would like to address a matter of growing concern within our school community. Recently, we have noticed an increase in students using language intended to hurt and harm others. While this has occasionally occurred in the yard during play, we are increasingly seeing it happen within our classrooms.

The use of harmful language can have significant negative effects not only on the recipients but also on those who witness these interactions. Words designed to hurt can lead to feelings of isolation, anxiety, and decreased self-esteem. It disrupts the positive learning environment we strive to maintain and can have lasting impacts on a child's emotional well-being.

At Berwick Chase Primary School, we pride ourselves on being an inclusive and supportive community. Our school is a place where every student should feel safe, respected, and valued. This type of behavior is contrary to our core values and will never be acceptable.

We are committed to addressing this issue head-on. Our staff will be working closely with students to reinforce the importance of kindness, empathy, and respect in all interactions. We also encourage parents and guardians to have conversations with their children about the power of their words and the importance of treating others with dignity.

We will be holding a special meeting this week with our students to reiterate what our expectations are and to highlight the benefits of attending a safer and more accepting school environment.

Thank you for your continued support in fostering a positive and inclusive environment for all our students.

Warm regards,

Chris Short
