Grade 5/6 Explore the State Library of Victoria!
The corridors of the State Library of Victoria echoed with the excited chatter of our Grade 5 and 6 students as they embarked on a remarkable journey through the annals of Australian history. This special excursion provided our budding historians with a unique opportunity to delve into the rich tapestry of our nation's past and discover the stories that have shaped our identity.
With eager hearts and curious minds, our students ventured into the heart of the library, where they were greeted by a treasure trove of historical artifacts, documents, and exhibits that brought the pages of history to life before their very eyes.
Guided by knowledgeable librarians and historians, our students embarked on a captivating exploration of Australia's past. They marveled at the ancient Indigenous artifacts that spoke of a history stretching back tens of thousands of years, gaining a newfound appreciation for the deep connection between the land and its First Nations peoples.
From the early days of European exploration to the trials and triumphs of colonial settlement, our students traced the footsteps of pioneers and settlers who shaped the landscape of our nation. They poured over maps, diaries, and letters, piecing together the stories of individuals who dared to dream and strive for a better future.
In the midst of their journey, our students encountered two iconic figures who loomed large in the pages of Australian history: Ned Kelly and William Barak. Through artifacts, artworks, and personal accounts, they learned about the legendary outlaw who became a symbol of defiance and rebellion, as well as the visionary Indigenous leader who fought tirelessly for the rights of his people.
As our students reluctantly bid farewell to the State Library, they carried with them a newfound appreciation for the rich tapestry of Australian history and the countless individuals who have contributed to its story. Their visit was not just an excursion; it was a journey of discovery, empathy, and understanding that will leave a lasting impression on their hearts and minds.
We extend our sincerest gratitude to the staff at the State Library of Victoria for their invaluable guidance and expertise, and to our students, may you continue to explore the depths of history with curiosity, compassion, and a sense of wonder.
