Discovery Dome incursion
On Wednesday 22 May, our Grade 1 and 2 students enjoyed a planetarium incursion facilitated by Science Discovery Dome. The workshop they attended was called 'Night and Day' and supports the Science focus in our STEM, Literacy and Integrated Studies.
Upon entering the portable planetarium, students were immersed in 360° digital projections, modelling, video clips, animation and facts about planet Earth, stars, planets, our moon and the seasons. Students saw how the sky changes in the course of a day and were transported into space. They learnt why we have seasons, why we can't see the moon and stars during the day and why the moon seems to change shape. They also learnt that the sun is a star and that Earth orbits around the sun.
After attending the incursion, students were encouraged to reflect on their experience; they shared what they enjoyed, what they learnt and what they were now wondering about.
Prepared by the Grade 1 and 2 Teachers: Paula Paziotis, Karin Tsiandikos-Huf, Maryanne Cozzio and Llaaneath Poor.
