STEM

This week in STEM, Preps continued to discuss words to describe the properties of materials.

Grade 1/2s explored the effect of heat on solids (chocolate) and had to draw a picture of before a Freddo Frog melted and what it looked like after it melted.

Grade 3/4s learnt about plastics and then discussed properties for plastic, using words such as transparent to describe some plastics.

Grade 5/6s started a rusting experiment. Next week, students will see the effect of saltwater and tap water on steel wool.

Well done to Holly Davenport-Robinson and Alaynah Walter for receiving STEM certificates this week.

MUSIC NEWS

Hello everyone,

In Music this week, the Preps explored autumn sounds and created autumn music.

The 1/2s created melodic and rhythmic patterns on chimes and other percussion instruments.

The 3/4s played ukuleles and created funky riffs.

The 5/6s explored the timbre of different pieces of music.

In Choir, we are on the countdown to the Eisteddfod, so we are practicing hard and sounding better all the time!

This week’s class Music Award goes to 3/4B for excellent instrument playing in Music this week. The individual awards go to Georgia Lewis & Adalynn Hann in 3/4B, also for excellent ukulele and chime playing.

ART NEWS

This week in art both the junior and senior students all worked on the same project.  Students were shown the picture book "Flashlight" by Lizi Boyd. The artwork in this book was drawn in white pen on black paper with the main character using their torchlight to spot different creatures in the dark.  Students recreated their own night scenes, drawing lots of interesting plant and animal life, and even a few monsters hidden in there!  A great effort by all students and I look forward to seeing the finished drawings when the students continue next week.

The week's art awards go to Alexandra Figura from 1/2D and Jordan Alexander from 5/6B

Thank you
