The Importance of Struggle

This week staff engaged in professional learning with Steve and Rosie from Earth Ed, Ballarat's Specialist STEM Centre, exploring the importance of challenging tasks and positive struggle in Maths. 

Neuroscience and extensive education research supports the notion of allowing students to engage in productive struggle in order to allow the brain to make connections and therefore support a deeper understanding and application of mathematical concepts.

Teachers engaged in some challenging tasks themselves and look forward to passing on this knowledge and practice with students across all areas of the school.
