Positive Futures News
What is the EDSC Positive Futures program?
Positive Education brings together the science of positive psychology with best-practice teaching.
The school’s journey with Positive Education began in 2012 with Positive Education focuses and values implemented across each year level and over time has evolved into the whole school approach launched in 2020.
Our Positive Futures program has some very clear goals:
- We want to improve student quality of life and their engagement with others, including with their teachers
- We seek to develop students in a more holistic way, with a stronger focus on wellbeing
There are six tenets of Positive Psychology that are embedded into our model:
Positive Health – Positive Self
Developing knowledge, understanding and skills to promote health and well – being.
Positive Relationships
Nurturing positive relationships based on respect.
Accomplishment
Generating hope and optimism through the accomplishment of personal and community goals
Positive Emotion
Building and experiencing positive emotion.
Meaning
Believing in serving something greater than ourselves.
Positive Engagement
Developing critical thinkers by promoting challenge, curiosity and creativity.

Term 2 - 2024
The focus for our term has been teamwork, either in individual sessions or completing projects that encouraged students to work together for a common goal. There is also a focus on Reconciliation Week this term before we take a little break due to exam period.
Year 12
As many of our students may be or will be turning 18 we have focussed on enrolling to vote, our voting system and investigating different political parties and what they represent. This has also been interspersed with some fun teambuilding activities.
Year 11
The Year 11s have completed a number of sessions on Physical and Mental Health first aid to give them the basic skills in these areas in order to support themselves and others.
Year 10
While a number of our Year 10s have been working on Kindness projects with the Year 7 classes, the remaining students have been involved in their own Community Action Project and/or gaining practical life skills in an area of their interest.
Year 9
Our Year 9s have had City Experience so some of the lessons were getting them prepared for, and reflecting on how they went. In between, the students attending a session with Victoria Police about sexting and the implications of online image abuse.
Year 8
The students have been focused on delivering Community Action projects that have been quite innovative and included many different members of the school community.
Year 7
Year 7 students have spent most of the term working on Kindness projects. Students were working with their Year 10 Peer Support leaders to come up with a project to promote kindness in our EDSC community. It was lovely to walk around the school and see our Year 7 students in action.
Our photos are of various projects and activities in the last week.
