The majority of students had a work experience placement last week, with some others having to do theirs later in the year. It has been wonderful to see the students faces light up when they recounted their experiences and I have enjoyed hearing about the different things that they got to do on their placements. This opportunity is so valuable for our students, as it gives them the chance to try different things and open their eyes to other possibilities beyond what they know and see in their everyday lives.
Thanks to Jo Macklan, Nathan Selsby and the teachers of Year 10 Health Careers for getting the students to complete the training requirements and paperwork to enable this to happen.
Wednesday evening saw a small group of students and parents attend an information evening which promoted Rotary Youth Exchange. We also heard about the year Harri spent in Italy on an exchange and about Roberto’s experiences throughout his year in Mount Beauty, being supported by the Mount Beauty Rotary Club. A panel of experts (host families, the students, and past participants of Rotary Youth Exchange) answered questions and explained the benefits of this amazing opportunity. If this is something that your child might be interested in, you can find information about Rotary Youth Exchange, or other exchange opportunities via their website.
Reconciliation Week is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures and achievements to reflect on the past and ensure we can move forward together. The week included a pre-bell playlist featuring Indigenous musicians, Home Group lessons to promote knowledge and discussion around Reconciliation. The week culminated in a lunch time BBQ, with a range of activities. Mount Beauty Primary School and Tawonga Primary School students also attended this special occasion in recognition of our shared history. Congratulations to Dyllen for helping to organise this event.
