Music Matters

Superband for Bishop’s Mass – Week 11: Our Junior and Senior Chorales, College Orchestra, Senior Concert Band and Drumline will combine to create a ‘Superband’ providing music for the Bishop’s Blessing and Consecration of the New Altar and Waterford Learning Centre Mass.

Rehearsals will be outside at SPX as follows:

  • Monday 7 April – 1:00 pm – 3:10 pm (the rest of the school will be leaving early due to the noise disruption to classes).  Please note that any musicians and singers who usually attend sport training on Monday afternoons will not be able to attend training on this day as they will be rehearsing for Tuesday's event.

  • Tuesday 8 April – 7:30 am sound check/tech rehearsal

  • Tuesday April 8 – 9:30 am Bishop’s Mass.

Students involved will receive an email next week. Year groups are having singing practice to familiarise themselves with the chosen hymns and parts of the mass.

Please come and support our incredible Senior Jazz Ensemble, with their director, Mr Geoff Power, performing live at the Forestville RSL Concert, next Wednesday 9 April, 6:45 pm - 9:00 pm.

An Evening of Jazz with James Morrison

Tickets are selling fast to see this legendary Australian Jazz icon at St Pius X College!

James will be working with our jazz ensemble students throughout the day on Friday 23 May, followed by a masterclass with his quartet for all our interested musicians after school.

This day will culminate in a special concert that evening, where James will be performing with our jazz ensembles as well as his own quartet and will also include performances by our concert bands. An email has been sent to Performing Arts families detailing which students will be performing and therefore won’t require a ticket. We hope you can join us for this extraordinary event!

From PAPA:

It’s a wrap: PAPA parents and carers' social event

Last Friday night almost 30 Performing Arts parents and carers braved the miserable weather to attend the inaugural PAPA social event at the Willoughby Hotel.  Enjoying stanching balls, salt and pepper squid and a selection of mezze plates, the group enjoyed meeting fellow Performing Arts families from across the year groups.  Thank you to our wonderful committee member, Jana Gibson, for her excellent organisation of the event.

Call for volunteers: Oliver Twist drama production

We’re still looking for 20+ volunteers to support the production over rehearsal and performance dates.  These include assisting in wardrobe, hair and make-up and general runners.

Drama Matters

Oliver Twist

Friday, 2 May, is now sold out! Tickets are still available for the other two performances.

We are currently in the process of putting the entire show together and transitioning between scenes. It's important for actors to feel secure with their lines and blocking, allowing them to be fully present during their performances.

All actors are encouraged to stay alert and work on their scripts when not on stage. Supporting the cast by watching and listening to fellow performers is crucial. Now is the time for both cast and crew to immerse themselves in the whole play and understand how each role contributes to the larger story we are telling.

Parents, please be aware your son will be at school and in rehearsals until 6:00 pm on Monday 7 April and Friday 11 April. Please pack extra food if they need a snack to keep their energy up. We also have a Sunday all-day rehearsal coming up. Students should bring all lunch and snacks.
